As we progress through the final quarter of the year, the holidays are upon us! With Thanksgiving kickstarting the holiday season, it is a perfect time to be grateful for all of our progress this year, the goals we have achieved and what we would like to accomplish in 2022.
Do you have goals and a plan for reaching them next year? Why wait to start?! Map out the steps you need to make these happen. Whether we realize it or not, our bodies are always adapting to the demands and stress we place on them. While this principle is often primarily related to our fitness in the gym, it also applies to our activities of daily living, workload, and stress levels as well! Strength is the foundation from which other physical qualities such as power, speed and agility are developed. As we get stronger, many of our daily tasks become less physically challenging as we positively adapt to these demands. This leaves more energy in reserve to dedicate towards our daily obligations as well as personal and professional goals.
In an effort to build strength most efficiently, it is recommended to have baseline pre-requisite muscular strength and pain free range of motion of each joint. Muscle weakness is related to decreased physical function, as well as falls in older adults, and is a compelling reason for physical therapy intervention. Use the next two months to build momentum and start working towards your goals now!
